Key West, as much a state of mind as an address. Earnest Hemingway and Jimmy Buffet come are two notable previous residents. Harry Truman, John James Audubon and Tennessee Williams also spent time in the Conch Republic.

The Tropic

The Trpoic Theater, Key West

Fircely independent and only ninety miles from Cuba, Key West declared its independence as recently as 1982.

Sloppy Joe’s, Hog’s Breath Saloon and The Green Parrot are icons in the town. Eccentric, funky, colorful and relaxing all describe this island; which seems more Caribbean than Floridian.

A few weeks ago I put up a post about The Road to Key West along with a photo gallery of with a lot of colorful images along the way to the Conch Republic.
