POD ~ Banana Blossom
A bloom on one of the many banana trees in our garden.
Banana hearts or blossoms are used as a vegetable in South Asian and Southeast Asian cuisine, either raw in a fresh salad or steamed with dips or cooked in soups, curries and fried foods. The flavor resembles that of artichoke. As with artichokes, both the fleshy part of the bracts and the heart are edible.
My Tropical Garden Prints Project is a portfolio of over two dozen images from our garden.

Tropical Garden ~ Update 3
Several more new images have just been added to the Tropical Garden Print Project Collection. As you recall, this is a gallery of black and white botanical images, most of which will be from the tiny garden around our home. The project is ongoing in that I will be adding images throughout the year as the seasons change.
As I have said previously, this project is finding its own way. Images are added with no predetermined plan. I am enjoying the process and have received much positive feedback from all of you. Thank you. Please continue to follow along by checking back often.

POD ~ Orchid Bloom
The first bloom from an orchid happily growing on a cabbage palm tree in my garden. The parent of this plant has been growing and outgrowing pots for over ten years. I believe the offspring clinging to the palm tree, after a slow start, is going to be quite content.

A Tropical Garden
Much of my photography centers around travel, but there are many interesting subjects to be photographed right here at home. This is the geneses of my new Tropical Garden Prints Project which is starting today. I am creating a gallery of black and white botanical images, most of which will be from the tiny garden around our home. This will be an ongoing project in that I will be adding images throughout the year as plants bloom, bare fruit, and as seasons change.
Archival quality prints will be available in folio form. Details can be found on the introductory page linked above.
I don’t know exactly where this project will lead, but I hope you will come along by checking back every now and then.

POD ~ Amaryllis
A beautiful Amaryllis bloom back lit by the late afternoon sun and converted to black and white to emphasize the delicate veining in it’s petals. What we commonly think of as an Amaryllis is really the Hippeastrum, which is native to tropical and subtropical areas of North America from Argentina north to Mexico and the Caribbean.
POD ~ Butterfly Orchid
The Butterfly Orchid or psychopsis papilio is native to Trinidad, Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru. The large 5 inch bloom appears at the end of a two to five foot spike. Because of the long spike, the bloom appears to dance or flutter in the breeze, hence it’s common name , “Butterfly Orchid.”
