POD – The Aucilla

The Aucilla River in the Big Bend area of North Florida is one of the most natural, least populated ares of the state. The river disappears underground and reappears several times before emptying into the Gulf of Mexico. The Aucilla is a rich source of late Pleistocene and early Holocene animal bones and human artifacts.

In the late seventies and early eighties thousands of pounds of marijuana and cocaine from Columbia were unloaded from boats near here.

The Ichetucknee River is located in North Florida near Branford and Fort White. It is fed by its namesake spring and eight other named springs. The river flows into the Santa Fe which converges with Suwannee and ultimately empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
