Today’s Photo – An Early Sunset Treat
Out for a late afternoon boat ride on recent breezy, even blustery, day. A few large clouds were skittering by so low it would seem you could almost touch them. This quick shot was taken with my iPhone. Then it was over, the rain started and we ran for home.

Did You See the Unique Cloud Formation?

Did anyone else see this unique cloud formation drifting over the Friday afternoon sky? In honor of the UN’s International Day of Peace, I would think.
You didn’t see it?…
Well, you should have been here…
No I wasn’t smoking anything!
OK, maybe it was a figment of my imagination.
Yes, that’s it, a figment of my imagination, channeled through Photoshop…
And then with the magic of WordPress sent on to you.
May peace be with you.

Post Card from Bangkok on the Brink of Flooding ?
Bangkok is a typical large SE Asian city that moves at a frenetic pace twenty-four hours a day. It has been on the brink of flooding for well over a week as the Chao Phraya River, that flows through the city, rises to 50 year highs. The flooding is the most expensive natural disaster in Thailand’s history. Much of the northern portion of the country is under water as are some of the outlying ares of Bangkok itself, though officials are hopeful that the city center will be spared. Here are some photos from along the Chao Phraya River as well as one taken from the plane window showing the extensiveness of the flooding.

An early morning shower over Matlacha Pass makes for a beautiful full rainbow – the other end descending into Charlotte Harbor.
Hurricane Irene Slashes Cat Island, Bahamas
Cat Island in the Bahamas, one of my favorite places, has been hard hit by Category 3 Hurricane Irene. The extent of damage is not known as communication is spotty and relief aid has been slow to come. The 1500 or so residents of Cat Island are a tough lot though and Irene is just the most recent of a very long list of hurricanes that have rolled through the Bahamas’ Out Islands over the years. The island is littered with abandoned homes, churches, and buildings, some dating from the days of slavery. And there is likely to be more now.
Brrrr
As I sit huddled near my space heater during this unprecedented cold spell hundreds of fish, mostly mangrove snapper and snook, are dying in the canal behind my house. They are coming to shallow, sunlit water trying to warm their cold blooded bodies.
One feels helpless, wanting to do something. There is really nothing one can do but hope for warmer weather, like all of Florida is doing.
There are reports from all around Pine Island of dying fish. Snook, lady fish, and mangrove snapper seem to be suffering the most.
But nature wastes very little. Herons, egrets, osprey, and eagles are about to have a buffet like they seldom see.
