Seen here are eight of the ten pontoon bridges pilgrims use to cross the Ganges River in Allahabad in northern India during the Kumbh Mela Festival, which is held once every twelve years at the confluence of the Yamuna, Ganges, and mythical Saraswati rivers, a site known as the Sangan. Tens of millions of worshipers come to bath in the holy waters here to wash away their sins.

2 Mar 2013Great viewpoint. Did you happen to be there when that tragedy happened?
fotograffer
2 Mar 2013Thanks. Yes we were there. The stampede took place at the railway station some miles from the festival site. We didn’t know about it until the next day. Very sad.
