Looking across Havana Harbor from Morro Castle at sunset.
Mine was the twilight and the morning. Mine was a world of rooftops and love songs.

As photographers, we continually struggle to find a unique, a slightly different point of view, from which to tell our story. When we are on the roof, we see things from a different perspective.
Angkor Wat, Combodia
The horizon is further, what we can take in, much more.
Banos, Ecuador
May you always have walls for the winds, a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire, laughter to cheer you, those you love near you and all your heart might desire.
___Irish Blessing
Les Cayes, Haiti
A leaking roof may fool sunny weather, but cannot fool the rain.
___Haitian Proverb
Stone Town, Zanzibar
The two images above look remarkably similar, but were taken half a world apart. The first in Les Cayes, Haiti, and the next in Stone Town, Zanzibar. The more things change, the more they stay the same, or so it seems.
Havana, Cuba
Overall, I was happiest to be alone; for it was then I was most aware of what I possessed. Free to look out over the rooftops of the city.

A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain.

And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.

13 Feb 2014Fabulous images, Ron. Havana looks so built up. Incredible! The harbor is my favourite view, and I love the Roald Dahl quote. 🙂

14 Feb 2014Thank you Sylvia. Havana is a big, but sadly, run down city.
Emilio Pasquale
13 Feb 2014Love the texture of the rooftop against the sky. And the colors. Beautiful!

13 Feb 2014Wonderful post as always Ron. Not surprised by the lovely exotic cities but stunned by the beauty of Tampa – who knew???!!! And truly love that Dahl quote. Will have to steal that at some future point 🙂
fotograffer
14 Feb 2014Yes, Tampa has really cleaned itself up, especially its riverfront. Help yourself to the Dahl quote. I’ll never tell. 🙂

13 Feb 2014Great series of shots Ron…and I like how you addressed this topic of photography. Best is using the amazing set of images from around the world…and are so diverse themselves. The Morro Castle and Havana shots are my two faves, but all that was outdone by the Roald Dahl quote, one of my favorites 🙂
fotograffer
14 Feb 2014Thanks Randall. I take it as a real compliment coming from you. Yes, Havana is a photographers dream.

14 Feb 2014One day I do hope to make it there…as silly as it sounds, I would like to go there before all the old beautiful autos from the 50s are replaced by the generic designs of today. You are lucky to have had such a great experience, and captured it so well.
fotograffer
14 Feb 2014Not silly at all. You should go sooner rather than later. Havana is slowly be surely loosing its “stuck in the 50’s” charm as the economy and standard of living continues to improve. When, as I hope, Cuba/US relations improve things there will change very quickly.

14 Feb 2014What a wonderful post! So rich! I like all your quotes but the last is my favourite! plus the Haitian proverb! I am particularly drawn to the rooftops over Havana! It’s like their colour is still crying out against time. 🙂
fotograffer
21 Feb 2014Thank you Gigi. There are so many lovely and insightful Haitian proverbs.

fotograffer
6 Mar 2014Thanks. It was made with five exposures and processed as HDR. Couldn’t quite get what I saw in my minds eye, but am pleased.
