A Single Bloom – a Single Image

Surely one of the most beautiful of all blossoms, the lotus is steeped in symbolism.

___The ancient Egyptians associated the lotus flower with the sun, creation, and rebirth. In many hieroglyphics the lotus is seen emerging from the water bearing the Sun God.

___The lotus has a strong association with Hinduism, symbolizing fertility, beauty, prosperity, eternity. Many Hindu gods and linked to the flower. Brahma, the god of creation is seen emerging from a lotus, while Laxmi, the goddess of prosperity is often seated upon a lotus bloom.

___To a Buddhist, the lotus is considered pure, perfectly clean. Therefore, the flower represents faithfulness, purity, spiritual awakening.

The one who wanders independent in the world, free from opinions and viewpoints, does not grasp them and enter into disputations and arguments. As the lotus rises on its stalk unsoiled by the mud and the water, so the wise one speaks of peace and is unstained by the opinions of the world.
