Along the Danube River in Austria’s scenic Wachau Valley lies the quaint Medieval village of Duernstein. Since the late 12th century, the Duernstein castle has kept watch over the town and this stretch of the river.
While the scene is like a fairy tale the photograph I was able to make that day didn’t do it justice. The harsh afternoon sun and featureless sky left the image rather lifeless. Attempting to salvage the scene, I added some texture layers using ON1’s Perfect Effects making the image reminiscent of an old landscape painting. I’ll leave it up to you to decide how effective I was.
The picture was taken with an Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II and Panasonic 35 – 100 f2.8 lens. Processing was with Lightroom and ON1 Perfect Effects.

1 Oct 2015A really beautiful scene, Ron. I loved seeing the castles along the Danube, and was lucky enough to visit a couple of them. I like the edit very much.It looks like an oil painting.

11 Oct 2015Textures and layer always adds a great feel (both to the photograph, but also a bit of expression of the photographer as well) ~ great shot, and now wish to one day see this majestic castle in person.

13 Nov 2015I felt so an old world scene need an old world look to it. Not a big fan of textures but was pleased with the out come. Thank you Randall.
