“Red Onion and Garlic” is an exercise in lighting and texture. The goal was to control light in a way that clearly shows the texture of the objects. Bouncing light back from the primary light source, a strobe to the left, helps the bulbs to appear to have volume or dimension. Light or its absence, shadow, achieves the goal of making a two-dimensional image appear to be three dimensional. Light helps create depth and texture, the two essential parameters that give photos dimension.
