Cornucopia of Chili Peppers
A variety of chili peppers spill out of a colander. Hardly a traditional cornucopia reminiscent of an end-of-summer harvest. But every bit as colorful. Back in the day, I considered myself an amateur expert of chilis. I collected seed and grew over a dozen varieties. From the relatively mild jalapenos to the hottest habaneros and Thai chilis. And became the neighborhood source for salsa – the hot and hotter variety. African Fire Park Stew, a North African incendiary dish with yams (sweet potatoes) and groundnuts (peanuts) was my favorite. Chili, the traditional kidney bean and ground beef dish would bring sweat to your brow.
“Cornucopia of Chili Peppers” was made with my favorite Olympus camera body and 12 – 40 mm lens. Lighting was a single studio strobe shot through a scrim on camera left and a white card on the right to reflect some light back to the chilis. This is my favorite lighting setup. It gives the subject dimension and shows detail and texture.
