The early morning sun contrasts the rusty orange of the Sanibel Lighthouse against the cloudless blue Florida sky. Fishermen dot the water’s edge hoping for a trout or mackerel on the outgoing tide. The light, on the eastern tip of Sanibel Island in Southwest Florida once guided sailors coming to the port of Punta Rassa at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River.
