Boys and Their Boat

Boys and Their Boat

halong-bay-vietnam

Two boys enjoy a little idle time drifting near their floating village in Vietnam’s serene Halong Bay, at the edge of the South China Sea. Life here is not as idyllic as it seems, however. The hundred or so fisherfolk that make up this floating community are out most nights working their nets. At dawn, they return to their colorful little homes to rest, make repairs, fill lanterns, and prepare for another night among the jagged karsts that pierce Halong Bay.

  1. Another amazing photo, Ron. And a great one for the challenge. It takes me back to one of my favorite journeys to Halong Bay in 2011. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Cathy. I’m going back to Vietnam in March. Mostly the hill tribes in the north.

        1. Thanks, Cathy. What are your travel plans?

  2. just a really great shot

  3. An interesting image – to me it looks as though the boat is hovering above the water.

    1. It seems that way. The water is very clear and with the angle of the sun it gives the illusion the boat is floating above the water, not on it. Thanks for your comment.

  4. Great photo of the boys chilling on the boat. Interesting place.

    1. Yes, Halong Bay is a fascinating place and so beautiful. Thanks.

  5. Great capture of the scene. I am going to Ha Long Bay in early November, and hope to see some of what you have already seen.

    1. I know you will love it. Hope the weather holds for you.
