Giant Alligator Visits

After a recent rain storm in our backyard here in Southwest Florida, we spotted an 8-foot alligator sunning itself on the edge of the pond. It has been unseasonably hot here, and I would imagine the water temperature in the pond exceeds 90 degrees. It is common for alligators to open their mouths to regulate their body temperature, so it is possible that this particular alligator left the pond to escape the heat.
