The World Rowing Championships were held in Sarasota, Florida recently. It had been over twenty years since they were held in the US. Photographing the rowers was a challenge given the harsh light and reflective water.

The sport is steeped in tradition. Its origins date back to Ancient Egyptian times. Modern competitive rowing can be traced back to the tenth century when local watermen competed on the River Thames in London.

Rowing has been an Olympic Sport since 1900. Additionally, the  International Rowing Federation puts on the World Rowing Championships annually.

    1. No plane, just standing on a bridge the rowers had to pass under as they returned from the race.. Thanks so much.
