Havana’s Malecon is much more than a broad esplanade that separates the city from the Gulf of Mexico. More than merely a seawall, it is the place many Habaneros spend their leisure time, especially on weekends. Families, lovers, and especially fishermen are drawn to where Old Havana meets the sea.

13 Aug 2018Just as I remember it. Your wonderful photography makes it all look so glamorous and fun – which I can be – but when I was there in the 80’s it was somewhat different. However, that sense of living life to the full was there and you have captured this so well. I love the 4th photograph, the ocean-splashed esplanade with shadowy houses. It’s the sort of photograph that if I’d taken it I would anguish over whether to lighten, show what’s hiding in the shadows, or leave for the effect. Your choice is perfect.

20 Aug 2018Indeed, the Cubans love of life is what makes Havana so special. One of my favorite cities in the world. Thanks for your kind words.
