“Still Life with Red Plums” is a recent addition to my Still Life Gallery. I was wanting a “dark and moody” look and feel for “Still Life with Red Plums”. A style that is popular in food photography at the moment. Of course, shaping the light is the key to success with still life photography or any type of photography for that matter.

The red plums are lit with a strobe to the right with two scrims (diffusion material) in between. In order the further create the mood all of the other props, the tabletop, black curtain, and dark green cloth, absorb rather than reflect the light. However, a white card was placed to the left of the scene to bounce light onto the plums to give them additional dimension. Yes, it’s a pretty simple setup but took more than an hour to get everything just right.

As always, thanks for stopping by. Be safe and wear your mask!
