A rickshaw puller (rickshaw wallah) takes a catnap while waiting for his next fare in the heat of the day in Calcutta, India. The rickshaw and their drivers are vanishing in this mega-city in Eastern India. The rickshaw is the only reliable form of transport when the annual monsoon flood Calcutta’s low-lying streets, all but assuring its survival. This image is another in a series previously published in Seeing in Sixes 2017.
Be well and stay sake. And thank you for stopping by.

8 Feb 2021Superb lighting in this photograph and it’s just perfect in black & white although my preference is usually for colour unless is a landscape full of trees. I don’t blame him for napping. He’s probably pretty exhausted with the job he does and possibly not enough to eat.

16 Feb 2021Thank you. Color vs black and white – the perennial discussion. I tend to prefer b&w for urban and street scenes and color for landscapes, etc.
